Jane Gordon, EdD, AMFT

Associate Marriage & Family Therapist
Supervised by: Joshua Wyner

I am Dr. Gordon, an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist in CA.

I am a marriage and family therapist with a passion for supporting individuals and families in creating stronger, healthier relationships including their relationship with themselves.  With a Doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology, a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology, I bring extensive clinical expertise and a deep understanding of relationships to my work.

Specializing in working with neurodivergent individuals and their families, I take a Neuroaffirming approach that honors the unique experiences and needs of neurodivergent individuals. Rather than focusing on changing behaviors to fit neurotypical expectations, I help families develop a deeper understanding of neurodivergence, fostering empathy, and meaningful connection. Recognizing that families with neurodivergent members often experience higher levels of stress, I work collaboratively to build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create a supportive home environment.

With over 20 years of experience, I have worked with a diverse range of clients in both general psychiatric settings and specialized areas, including eating disorders and neurodivergence. I spent several years working in the school system supporting staff and students in creating an inclusive school environment for neurodivergent students.  In addition to clinical work, I was also a marriage and family therapy professor for 10 years, contributing to the education and training of future marriage and family therapists.  Most importantly, I was raised in a neurodivergent family and now am raising neurodivergent children of my own.  This personal perspective contributes to my understanding of the complexities of neurodivergence.

I believe that every individual and family has inherent strengths, and my ultimate aim is to help clients recognize and build upon those strengths to foster growth, connection, and well-being.

My Approach

At the core of my therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy helping clients see complex, systemic ways family members’ underlying belief systems—shaped by childhood experiences and societal expectations—affect their emotional responses and behaviors.  By bringing awareness to these patterns, families can begin to shift long-standing dynamics, leading to lasting and meaningful change. This process is more than just modifying behavior; it involves deep transformation by altering the fundamental rules and interactions within the family system.

I take this work a step further by attuning to the broader systems that influence family relationships. I help clients recognize and challenge unjust societal narratives, cognitive distortions, and deeply ingrained cultural expectations that may contribute to stress and disconnection. Through a Neuroaffirming lens, I empower clients to embrace and celebrate differences that society may minimize, overlook, or even pathologize. This approach fosters not only stronger family connections but also greater self-acceptance and confidence in navigating a world that often fails to recognize and accommodate neurodivergent experiences.
